Ginger is a sweet 3 yr old mixed breed who was originally adopted from the shelter when she was around 2 years old. Unfortunately, the person who adopted Ginger abandoned her a year later. Poor Ginger went 4 days without food or water before animal control picked her up. Being in a shelter twice was already bad enough for such a young dog, but to find herself in a high kill shelter made things more hopeless for this girl. All she wanted was a family to love her and that she could love in return, but as the days passed by and no one showed interest, Ginger began to lose hope. Sure enough, a few weeks later, Ginger found herself on the list that no dog ever wants to be on. The list of dogs who had once dreamed of being someone’s best friend, but who were now scheduled to be put down instead. Was this really the end? Is this all that life had to offer such a sweet dog— to leave this world discarded, unwanted, and unloved?
Although Transitions Pet Care’s primary focus is on providing free pet care for owners facing health challenges, we felt compelled to help. Being a foster based rescue, however, we can only help dogs if someone is willing to open up their home. Luckily, one of our incredible pet care volunteers agreed to foster Ginger. With only 2 days to spare before Ginger was set to be put down, we were able to contact Clayton County Animal Control and make arrangements to pick her up.
Thanks to the generous grant from Second Life, we were able to get Ginger’s rabies vaccine, a badly needed nail trim, heartworm test, and flea and heartworm preventative. A couple heard about Ginger’s story and expressed interest in adopting her. Ginger went from being a shelter dog, abandoned and left to die, to a loved dog in a nice house and a fenced in yard to run around in.
