Gracie Mae is a 7 yr old tabby cat who belongs to a woman who has survived not one but two types of cancer. Unfortunately, the treatment she received put her at a higher risk for strokes and a couple of years ago she had a massive stroke that left her paralyzed on one side of her body. She had to move into an assisted living facility for care and was luckily able to bring Gracie Mae with her.
The staff at the facility helps the lady out with her daily care but make it clear that she is on her own as far as caring for Gracie Mae. With only the use of one hand, scooping the litter box was challenging and doing a total clean out was impossible. The staff frequently complained to the owner about the smell of the litter box but there wasn’t much the owner could do. Poor Gracie Mae was also unhappy with her dirty litter box. Fortunately, the owner’s care manager heard about Transitions Pet Care and connected us with the owner.
Transitions Pet Care put together a team of volunteers who now go in throughout the week and scoop and clean out the litter box. This has created a more sanitary environment for both Gracie Mae and her owner. Thanks to the grant from Second Life, Transitions Pet Care is also able to assist with cat food and litter for Gracie Mae. We’ll also be there to assist with any vet care she needs in the future.
