Lucy is a 12 yr old Jack Russell Terrier who was found by an older couple after she was dumped on the side of the road as a young dog. Ron and Sharon fell in love with the sweet tempered Lucy and she quickly became a part of the family. She brought many years of joy and excitement to the couple and gave them an excuse to get out and walk every day.
Late last year, Doctors sadly reported that Sharon’s cancer had come back with a vengeance and that she was terminal. Her husband became her caregiver but struggled himself because he also has a brain tumor. With their healthcare expenses taking over their finances, the couple was only able to afford a caregiver twice a week. Every other day it was up to Ron to tend to Sharon. He didn’t mind, but it made walking Lucy hard. Because Sharon’s cancer had spread to her brain, she needed 24 hour supervision, so Ron was apprehensive about leaving Sharon to walk Lucy and Sharon was too weak to join the walk. Luckily, Ron’s daughter found out about Transitions Pet Care and free walks for Lucy were set up. This meant that Lucy would be able to get her walks and Ron could stay with his wife.
As Sharon’s cancer progressed, her symptoms were not being controlled at home and she was admitted to inpatient hospice where she would spend her final days. Ron, the devoted husband, longed to be at his wife’s bedside providing constant vigil and love. He didn’t want to miss a moment to have to go home and care for Lucy. Transitions Pet Care was able to help again.
